What truly benefits your dog
The winter months do not only change our daily routines, but also those of our dogs. Less daylight, shorter walks and busy schedules lead to fewer encounters with other dogs – usually without us even noticing.
For this very reason, it is worth giving conscious attention to social contact during this time of year.
Dogs are social animals. Regular interaction with other dogs plays an important role in their emotional balance. During winter, however, many familiar opportunities disappear: dog schools pause, meetings become less frequent and walks are often shorter.
Here are some practical ways you can support your dog’s wellbeing:
• Enable regular, calm contact with other dogs
A few familiar dogs are often more beneficial than constantly changing encounters.
• Combine movement and social interaction
Walking together is usually more relaxing than intense play in confined spaces.
• Avoid overstimulation
Cold temperatures, darkness and excessive stimuli can tire dogs more quickly.
• Pay attention to subtle signals
Withdrawal, restlessness or changes in sleep patterns can indicate an imbalance.
Social contact with other dogs in small, consistent groups with clear structures give many dogs a sense of security – especially during a season when much feels less predictable.
Ways to support your dog through the winter months
It is not always possible to organise daily life exactly as we would like. Professional commitments, appointments or health-related reasons can make it challenging to provide regular exercise and social interaction.
In such situations, there are various supportive options – including supervised walks or structured day care in a reliable setting.
Our dog walking service – available year-round
Our dog walking service is available from Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 12:00 and is available to households in the area between Fribourg, Estavayer-le-Lac and Avenches.
Your dog is collected directly from your home in our specially equipped Dogtastic bus, enjoys a 50–60 minute walk in a small, stable group, and is returned home relaxed and well exercised.
Walks take place with a minimum of three dogs and groups are limited to a maximum of five dogs .
